December Volunteer Testimonial

"Experiencing Nicaragua for the first time as a volunteer was one of the most rewarding and exciting travel adventures I have ever had. The program provides you with the rare combination of having a semi-planned agenda, the flexibility to take it day by day and venture as you please, and the unique opportunity to live with a Nicaraguan family if you so choose (which I totally recommend!). Carrie, the coordinator, is an excellent welcome package, as she picks you up from the airport and gives you a mini tour of Granada, showing you all the essential places are (ie money exchange, drug store, bus stop...etc.). My volunteer time was spent with the kids in different neighborhoods. Even though all they wanted to do was play soccer- because that is what they know- they were very receptive and open to learning new things from a stranger :). They were completely content doing art projects for 2 hours at a time! It was also awesome to meet other volunteers from all over the world and enjoy the Granada nightlife at the local cafes with live bands and locals. If you have the time, I absolutely recommend this program- as you will experience an adventure that is rewarding and encapsulating in its own sense." - Mel Avenisan
