MARCH AGAINST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

Viva Nicaragua! interns participated in and helped organize a march against domestic violence in order to increase awareness of the rights of victims and bring justice to abused women and children. The march was a success - many organizations and individuals from Granada and other departments participated and media coverage helped bring national attention to this serious social problem.

Because of the support of Carrie and the other Viva Nicaragua! staff, my experience in Nicaragua was the best it could have been. Carrie was always there for me, whether I had a problem at my internship site, with my host family, or with the many cultural differences I encountered. I not only gained in depth knowledge of women's issues in Nicaragua through my internship, but Carrie also made sure I was able to see other projects going on in the area. At the end of my two months I felt as if I had truly made the best of my time there. I learned more than I possibly could have imagined and I feel that through my work down there I was able to leave something behind.
